Devotion as a real concept
We grapple with the word discipline a lot, but some of us really can’t hold on it to, so how can we grow?
Well today we’re going to explore another word that I would like to use: Devotion.
See, discipline is something harsh. It feels like a pain to do it and some of us really can’t do it because of the harshness that discipline and it’s hustle, workout, 4am club, brutality, culture it brings—but we can soften a bit into devotion.
Devotion is an act where discipline meets flow and self-love, so when you’re doing things you know you should be, you’re doing them from a place where you know it’s because you love it and you want it for yourself, not because it SHOULD BE DONE!
Devotion gives you a chance to loving relax for a day instead of staying rigid in your disclipine routine. The idea that if we’re not bleeding, crying and sweating then we’re not working had enough is so fucking outdated and should stay in whatever dimension it needs to.
You are not at war if we are reading this at home in bed, or on your phone at work. We can relax.
If we do need to go to war, then we will receive the proper training and harshness that will need to come with the reality of that, but right now we’re not, so why are we acting like it?
Devotion says “love yourself enough to do what needs to be done, and that also means resting.”
I teach a lot of this inside of the Ancient Academy because learning from me (and others) in there truly means that you need to have devotion to the art of loving yourself enough to learn the tools, read the knowledge and then apply it so you can thrive.
Today, choose to devote your time and energy into self-love, admiration and doing what has to be done.
