The Attic of the Mind
The Attic of the Mind is a term I coined a looooong time ago when I was really into psychology and studying what made humans do what they do.
When I was diving really deep into psychology it was a dark period in my life where I wanted to understand why my parents acted the way they did, and if I was smart enough to figure it out, I could fix them so I could have a family. Now that I’m 15 years past that, I understand what a futile attempt that was because people won’t change unless they absolutely want to (and you can’t do a damn fucking thing to change their minds btw).
So with the knowledge I had about minds, I began to understand that we all have something deep within us that is a little bit dark, edgy, and holds a LOT of power but sometimes acts in a way that we don’t really want to act.
One thing about the attic is that it holds everything. And so when we lash out, or we’re feeling anxious or something is going on, I think our attic remembers something and we just consciously have been repressing it on purpose so we don’t have to go through the emotion attached to the event. I had written a note that said to write a 7 part series, but it was 6 years ago and now I’ve forgotten (a sign to always write and take action on your ideas when they come).
However, I do remember the idea of the attic because it was so profound that it stuck with me all of these years.
Do you know when you smell a scent for 15 years ago but it’s so strong that you remember exactly what it made you feel like back then? The memory is inside the attic and was activated by a sense. So, why can’t we access the attic often and begin to take the dusty boxes out?
Well, my theory is that everything we’ve ever encountered lives inside our mind, but we don’t have access to all the information until we need it. That’s why we see people in our dreams that we may not remember but their faces are clear(we have seen them at some point and our mind remembers everything).
To access these points in our minds would be absolutely astounding to our evolution as humans and I believe that we can do it through dreams, meditation and somatic therapy (and all of these are inside the Library of the Ancient Academy for you to study and also inside the Tool section so you can learn to apply them to your life).
The best example I have for this is when I went to meditate for 10 days. It was 100 hours of meditation and 10 days of complete silence and isolation. I handed over my phone, and every other stimulating thing to be present for 10 days, learning how to dig deeper into my body.
At first, I was in fight or flight because I was terrified of what was coming. And even worse, I was so reclusive in my mind that I intimidated a lot of the other people and before the silence started, I wasn’t having a lot of conversations (once I ate and settled, I turned to the others to join the conversation and they told me they didn’t disturb me because I felt determined).
A few days into Vipassana and I was BALLING my eyes out remembering things that I didn’t consciously realize I was still upset about. I cried about the death of my great-grandmother was passed 7 years prior. 7 YEARS! Imagine what you’re holding onto that you haven’t fully proceed yet.
The next few days of course things happened. I found my own inner voice, I cried, I released and I had a kundalini awakening (which I didn’t know what the hell it was at the time, and because I couldn’t talk to anyone, I didn’t find out until after), and it was here I realized that presence, stillness and mediation bring you deeper.
The same year this happened (2019) I began writing down my dreams and learned that I could go even deeper into myself through them and change the way things were in my life.
This year (2025) was when I realized that residual things live inside the body and somatic is the way to quantum leap your healing.
And so those 3 things: dreams, mediation and somatic are the way into the attic of the mind, and out of suffering.
